Iceland is expected to shortly withdraw its application to become a member state of the European Union
"On Tuesday 17 December 2014 the General Court of the European Union gave its judgement in Case T-400/10 Hamas v Council. In its judgement the General Court annulled the Council measures maintaining Hamas on the European list of terrorist organisations. Effectively, this means that funds designated for Hamas that have previously been frozen soon will be made available to the organisation. The Sweden Democrats considers the ruling of the General Court to be very unfortunate as it will enable funds to flow into an organisation that in its charter calls for the destruction of the Israeli state, and who repeatedly keeps attacking civilian Israeli targets. For example, Hamas was implicated in the 2014 kidnapping and subsequent murder of three Israeli teenage boys on the West Bank.
This decision by the General Court will do nothing to improve the prospect of peace in region, but will instead only serve to legitimize an organisation that is designated a terrorist organisation by countries such as Canada, the United States of America, Egypt and Israel. Instead, pressure should be exerted on Hamas to make the organisation abandon the use of violence."
